Can a smart home
be hacked?

Anything connected to the internet can be a target. What matters is what a device could see if someone got in, what still works if something goes wrong, and who decides who has access. Here is how meshams handles each of those.

No meshams product has a camera. Lumos smart switches keep working from the panel without Wi-Fi or the internet, and only the people a home owner invites can control the home from the app.

No cameras. Anywhere.

The stories that worry people most are about cameras: an indoor camera hacked, a stranger watching a child's room. meshams decided early that none of its products would carry one.

"None of our products have cameras, even our autonomous air purifier. It would not have any camera capturing or recording any photos or videos. It's our responsibility to make the spaces not only intelligent but safe as well."

  • Lumos switch panels: touch keys, no camera.
  • meshams sensors measure temperature, humidity and air quality, not images.
  • Isaac, the autonomous air purifier: designed without a camera.

Your switches don't depend on the cloud

If the internet goes down, or a server somewhere has a bad day, a Lumos panel is still a light switch. The touch keys work without Wi-Fi or the internet. The app, Alexa and Google Home pick up again as soon as the connection is back.

After a power cut every key goes back to the state it was in. More on what happens in a power cut.

You decide who's in

Family

The owner makes a 6-character invite code in the app. It works for 24 hours, and making a new one cancels the old one, so a code shared by mistake doesn't stay open.

Voice assistants

Alexa, Google Home and Claude only reach your switches after you connect them from your own account. What each one can do.

Why Isaac has no arms or legs

Isaac, the meshams air purifier, moves around your home on its own. It was designed as a single body with no limbs, on purpose.

"Any machine that has limbs is a dangerous thing to have, especially a self-learning machine. One software glitch and you just don't know what could happen next, around your kids, your parents or your grandparents."

Smart home security: your questions.

Can meshams see inside my home?

No meshams product has a camera: not the Lumos switches, not the sensors, not the Isaac air purifier. There is nothing that can take a photo or record video in your home.

If the internet or the meshams servers go down, do my switches stop working?

No. The touch keys on a Lumos panel work without Wi-Fi or the internet, so your lights and fans keep working from the wall. The app and voice assistants need the internet and start working again as soon as it is back.

Who can control my switches?

The people you invite to your home, and the voice assistants you connect yourself. Family members join with a 6-character code from the owner's app, valid for 24 hours; making a new code cancels the old one.

How do I delete my data?

You can ask for your account and data to be deleted from the delete-data page on this website.
